Luis was born in Washington DC to Chilean parents and raised across multiple countries, including El Salvador and Chile. Luis grew up bilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish. This multicultural upbringing laid the foundation for a life dedicated to bridging communities and empowering youth.
After high school, Luis answered a different kind of call to service, joining the U.S. Army. As a communications specialist stationed in Alaska for over three years, he honed his discipline, technical skills, and commitment to teamwork. But when his military chapter closed, a new one began in the Sunshine State.
Luis’s search for purpose led him to AMIkids, a turning point that would shape the next three decades of his life. Starting at the program level in South Florida, Luis dedicated over 30 years to mentoring and guiding young people, helping them discover their potential and rewrite their stories. His leadership and passion eventually brought him to the organization’s home office in Tampa, where he served five impactful years as Operations Specialist.
Now, in his newest role as Yacht Donation Facilitator, Luis continues to support AMIkids’ mission in a unique way, helping turn generous donations into life-changing opportunities for youth across the country. His work ensures that every vessel donated becomes a vessel of hope.
Beyond his professional life, Luis is a devoted husband to Heather, his partner of over 25 years, and a proud father to their adult son, Gavin.
